Zinc Oxide provides a physical barrier from UVA and UVB

Maricela Fortuna

Zinc is an amazing mineral for our bodies, both internally and externally.

Taking zinc internally assists with the proper division of our cells, cell growth, wound healing and the proper functioning of our immune system. It also sharpens our tasting and smelling abilities while promoting healthy skin, hair and nails. Zinc can lessen the length of a cold… it’s not completely clear how zinc helps but it may deactivate the cold virus in the mouth and throat, stop the virus from replicating and halt it from adhering to nasal membranes. It’s helpful to take a zinc supplement when the first symptoms of a cold begin.

Zinc oxide is usually the form of zinc we use topically in skincare formulations. It’s healing, protects and soothes the skin with its anti-inflammatory and antioxidant benefits. Zinc oxide provides a physical barrier from the sun providing both UVA and UVB protection and has the FDA’s approval for use in sunscreens. It does a great job refracting (or bouncing back) the sun’s rays away from our skin rather than many sunscreen ingredients that can allow the sun’s rays to penetrate the skin. You’ll find this impressive ingredient in our Daytime Defense, Ezinc and Sheer Tint Finisher.

Tis’ the season (SUMMER) to use zinc oxide whole heartedly on yourself and keep zinc supplements close by because summer colds can always sneak up on us! However, SPF is an all-year-round "must have" for your skin.
